Backdown On Dental Commissioning Would Be Retrograde Step, Argues BDA, UK
The British Dental Association (BDA) has today urged the Department of Health not to abandon their plans for dentistry to be commissioned by a new national board. The call follows the House of Commons' Health Select Committee's suggestion that responsibility for commissioning should instead be moved to new NHS local commissioning authorities. John Milne, Chair of the BDA's General Dental Practice Committee, said: "Local commissioning of dentistry by primary care trusts has not been a huge success.
Delta Dental Launches Spanish-Language Online Cavity Risk Quiz For Kids
Spanish-speaking children and caregivers now have a new online tool to help gauge a child's risk for cavities, thanks to a new interactive quiz launched by a group of Delta Dental companies. The dental cavity risk quiz, which also includes tips on cavity prevention, is now accessible on the unified Spanish-language website for Delta Dental Insurance Company, Delta Dental of California, Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and their affiliates at deltadentalins.com/espanol. The quiz, one of the many free educational resources Delta Dental provides in Spanish as well as English, is part of Delta Dental's wellness education.
Reprieve For Discretionary Points For Consultants In Scotland
A plan to scrap the award of discretionary points to consultant dentists and doctors in Scotland for work done in 2010/11 has been shelved, it has been announced. The climb-down by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon means that the process of awarding points will be run as normal by Health Boards from 1 April 2011. The Scottish Government announced its intention to discontinue the award of discretionary points in November 2010, launching a consultation process on the issue that finished in February.
