Healing Times For Dental Implants Could Be Cut
The technology used to replace lost teeth with titanium dental implants could be improved. By studying the surface structure of dental implants not only at micro level but also at nano level, researchers at the University of Gothenburg; Sweden, have come up with a method that could shorten the healing time for patients. "Increasing the active surface at nano level and changing the conductivity of the implant allows us to affect the body's own biomechanics and speed up the healing of the implant, " says Johanna LГ berg at the University of Gothenburg's Department of Chemistry.
Dentists Urged To Respond To The Government's Red-Tape Challenge, UK
The British Dental Association (BDA) is calling on the profession to join in the government's Red Tape Challenge by drawing attention to the myriad rules and regulations that distract them from providing patient care. An example is the disproportionate and duplicative regulation requirements now imposed by the Care Quality Commission, but there are many more. The BDA welcomes this initiative, which government ministers say not only offers the public an opportunity to say what they really think of unnecessary regulation, but also commits them to repealing legalisation that cannot be justified.
Piloting Must Not Fail Test Of Nerve Says GDPC Chair, UK
All parties involved in pilots for a new dental contract in England must hold their nerve when the process hits problems, General Dental Practice Committee Chair John Milne has emphasised this week. In a blog published ahead of his address at the 2011 Annual Conference of Local Dental Committees on Friday (10 June 2011), Dr Milne has acknowledged that it is inevitable that challenges will occur during the pilots. He has warned though that both Government and participants must stick with the process despite the problems and learn lessons about what does and doesn't work.
